Despite petrol prices increasing for all categories in 2025, with fluctuations driving the cost of filling up higher, this year began with significant price cuts.
Petrol and diesel prices dropped in January, with the most significant price reductions in more than a year.
UAE petrol prices cut in 2026
Fuel retailers priced E-Plus 91 at AED2.34 a litre and diesel at AED2.55 a litre in January 2026.
That is a notable drop from the AED2.51 and AED2.85 in December 2025.
Special 95 and Super 98 are also cheaper now than at the end of last year, falling from AED2.58 to AED2.42 a litre and AED2.70 to 2.53 a litre respectively.
Since January 1, the cost of filling up vehicles in the UAE has been:
- E-Plus: AED2.34 a litre from AED2.51 in December
- Special 95: AED2.42 from AED2.58 in December
- Super 98: AED2.53 from AED2.70 in December
- Diesel: AED2.55 from AED2.85 in December
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the Fuel Price Committee froze petrol prices in the UAE, preventing any changes.
However, in March 2021, the government lifted the controls as global oil prices began to rise, allowing market forces to determine petrol prices once again.
Moreover, changes in crude oil prices worldwide also influence the fluctuation in petrol prices.
