If you’re looking to upgrade your home theater, Amazon is having a big sale on Sonos devices right now, with almost all of its products marked down significantly. And if you ask me, the Sonos Beam Gen 2 is one of the best deals of the bunch: This space-saving soundbar doesn’t skimp on premium features, and it’s currently down to $369 (originally $499), a near-record low according to price-tracking tools. This is the soundbar I’d choose if I were looking for a powerful option that wouldn’t take up a ton of space in my living room.
This isn’t the first Beam soundbar—that would be the Sonos Beam Gen 1, which came out in 2018. That was the first smart soundbar to support both Google and Alexa voice assistants, as well as AirPlay. The Sonos Beam Gen 2 arrived in 2021, adding Atmos compatibility, eARC connectivity, NFC connectivity, and a better processor. The Sonos companion app also improved dramatically, making for a much better experience, adding features like Sonos TruePlay, which calibrates the speaker based on its environment.
What do you think so far?
The release of the bigger and more powerful Sonos Arc Ultra last year kicked the Beam Gen 2 off the top of Sonos’ product list, but that just means you’ve got a better chance of scoring a good discount on a still excellent device. Its flat, tablet-like design (measuring 2.7 x 25.7 x 4.0 inches) makes it extremely compact, yet it still produces big sound (with Dolby Atmos audio support), as noted in PCMag’s “excellent” review. If you want deep bass you’ll need to add a Sonos subwoofer, but otherwise, this is a great replacement for your TV’s built-in speakers.
