When you walk into your local Kroger this time of year, you might already have a mental list of staples to grab.
Maybe it’s the spiral-cut ham for your holiday dinner. Or perhaps it’s seasonal sides like mashed potatoes, green-bean casserole, and pumpkin pie that you’re picking up for Christmas entertaining.
Kroger’s frequent holiday deals make it a popular stop as December shopping ramps up. With elevated grocery prices still on many Americans’ minds — the Consumer Price Index sat at 2.7% percent for the month ending November — shoppers are often looking for both convenience and value during the busy season.
And while Kroger doesn’t typically sell viral seasonal items the way some specialty grocers do, its holiday products — including festive desserts, party platters, and winter comfort foods — tend to be crowd pleasers this time of year.
Plus, whether you’re planning a big Christmas dinner or just making sure the pantry is stocked for visiting family, Kroger usually has you covered.

Kroger will not be open on Christmas Day 2025
If you’re hoping to make a grocery run at Kroger on Dec. 25, you’ll need to plan ahead. Like many large supermarket chains, Kroger closes its stores on Christmas Day so employees can spend the holiday with their families.
Most Kroger locations across the country will be closed on Thursday, Dec. 25.
Kroger is open on Christmas Eve (Wednesday, Dec. 24), but with reduced hours — most stores and fuel centers close by 6 p.m., and pharmacy counters typically close earlier, around 5 p.m.
Because hours can vary slightly by region, shoppers should double-check their local Kroger store hours before heading out.

Some retailers close on major holidays to give employees a break, and Kroger is one of them.
While stores remain open throughout most of the year and operate on early closures for holidays such as Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve, on Christmas Day, many stores close.
Other major grocery and retail chains that are typically closed on Christmas Day include:
- Walmart
- Target
- Costco
- Trader Joe’s
- Publix
- Aldi
So if you need last-minute ingredients, party snacks, or maybe even a gift card or other gift on Christmas Day itself for an unexpected guest, you’ll likely have to turn to a convenience store or pharmacy that is open on major holidays.
