The craft beer industry seems to receive bad news every day from breweries closing down operations and sometimes filing for bankruptcy.
Over 250 breweries in the U.S. closed down permanently in the first six months of the year, and many more have followed those closings in the second half of the year.
Among the reasons given for breweries closing have been rising costs of ingredients, labor, and products, slowing taproom traffic, and fierce retail competition, according to American Craft Beer.
Some breweries shut down their business without filing for bankruptcy, such as Miamisburg, Ohio, craft brewery Entropy Brewing Company, which revealed on social media that it will close down its business permanently on Dec. 27, 2025, with no plans yet to file for bankruptcy.
Other craft breweries need to file Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection to liquidate and shut down their business.
Recent beer brands to file for Chapter 7 include St. Petersburg, Fla.-based brewery Dissent Craft Brewing, which filed in August; Exton, Pa.-based Iron Hill Brewery LLC and San Jose, Calif.-based Strike Brewing Company, which both filed in October; and Oregon-based Rogue Ales & Spirits, which filed in November.
Bosque Brewing closes 2 more locations
And now, bankrupt pizza and craft brewery chain Bosque Brewing Company has closed down two more of its locations in Albuquerque, N.M., as it closed its Bosque West and Bosque San Mateo Public House taprooms.
Bosque Brewing revealed on its Facebook page on Dec. 16 that it closed the two locations “effective immediately.”
“This step allows us to focus our resources better and support the long-term health of the organization,” the company said in the post.
“While these locations were not able to continue operating sustainably, the relationships built there will always be part of our story. We remain deeply rooted in Albuquerque, Bernalillo, and Las Cruces and continue to operate in all three communities,” the company said.
The closing of the Bosque West and Bosque San Mateo Public House taprooms followed the closing of two Santa Fe, N.M., locations, The Drinkery and Restoration Pizza, on Dec. 3, and Bosque Brewing’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing on Oct. 6.
