OTTAWA—Canada’s economy expanded more rapidly than expected in the third quarter, rolling back the prior quarter’s contraction thanks to a reversal in the trade balance and a jump in government defense spending that helped counter softness elsewhere.
Gross domestic product grew at an annualized rate of 2.6% in the July to September period to 2.502 trillion Canadian dollars, the equivalent of $1.783 trillion, Statistics Canada said Friday.
