Telangana government has sanctioned ₹1,000 crore for infrastructure development of the historic Osmania University (OU), Hyderabad.
Announcing this in a meeting with the faculty and students in the University campus here on Wednesday, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy said the government would support OU to scale up to global standards in infrastructure and academic excellence.
Lauding the contribution and sacrifices made by the university students during the Telangana Movement, the Chief Minister said the OU was at the forefront of the movement in its final phase leading to the granting of statehood to Telangana in 2014.
The state government was aiming at providing quality education to one and all to achieve speedy development and was setting up integrated residential schools and establishing Young Indian Skills University, Reddy said adding that a committee has been set up to identify and fill the vacant posts in the teaching and non-teaching sections.
The University authorities would finalise the models for development of world-class infrastructure in consultation with all stake-holders including students, Reddy said. He also released a QR code for sharing the views on development and to offer suggestions on the occasion.
Osmania University was established in 1918 by the Seventh Nizam of Hyderabad, Mir Osman Ali Khan as the first university in the princely state of Hyderabad. It is the third oldest university in South India, and the seventh oldest in the country.
