The passenger vehicle (PV) wholesales (despatches to dealers) grew by more than 11 per cent year-on-year (y-o-y) to around 4.50 lakh units in January as compared with around 4.04 lakh units in the same month last year, the industry has indicated on Monday.
Market leader Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) said it has recorded highest-ever despatches of 2,36,963 units that includes exports and sales to Toyota. Notably, the exports also reached an all-time monthly high of 51,020 units, the company said.

The company also has achieved a milestone of 50,000 units for Victoris in five months of its launch. As of January 31, the company has close to 1.75 lakh units pending bookings, which is more than the usual one month booking, he informed.
“We are trying to balance our production to make all our models based on the bookings so that our customers don’t have to wait for a longer time. In order to serve our customers, we have also come with the price protection scheme in the month of January, since we were not able to supply the vehicles,” he said.
He said the company has decided that first-time customers who are coming to the four-wheeler segment should be given the opportunity to upgrade. “Hence, we have given a price protection scheme that if you book your car, we are going to serve you. There will be no price increase because there is huge pressure on the commodity prices,” Banerjee added.
Meanwhile, ‘Sierra’ maker, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles reported a 46 per cent y-o-y growth to 70,222 units during the month as compared with 48,076 units in January 2025.

In the two-wheeler segment, market leader Hero MotoCorp reported a growth of 26 per cent y-o-y to 5,20,208 units in January as compared with 4,12,378 units in the same month last year.
The strong growth in January 2026 was driven by robust performance in the Scooter segment supported by growing consumer demand for new offerings such as Xoom and Destini. The motorcycle portfolio also witnessed strong traction, led by Xtreme and Glamour X, the company said.
Similarly, Royal Enfield recorded y-o-y growth of 16 per cent in its domestic sales to 93,781 units in January 2026 as compared with 81,052 units in the same month last year.
