For a vacuum company, Dyson can sometimes feel like nerd church. Its devices are a hive of invention: often cool, always expensive, and sometimes the best (or only) device of their kind. Its line of vacuums in particular offers more features than a ’90s multiplex, and so many models it might as well be Paris during fashion week.
As with all high-ticket items, it’s best to buy a Dyson when it’s on sale. Dyson has chosen the depths of winter to offer a good sale on a couple of WIRED’s favorite vacuums and heaters. Dyson’s line is a lot to sort through, but luckily, WIRED has spent years sorting Dyson wheat from Dyson chaff.
The $350 sale on Dyson’s budget V8 is a pretty-standard issue deal, easy to find at this price through much of last year. WIRED also tends to recommend you look for Dyson V11 models at prices below $400, but this $190-off deal on the V11 Extra is still a decent discount if you’re in the market.
Two of WIRED’s favorite top-line Dyson models are also on sale at significant discounts—our favorite pet hair vacuum and our favorite purifier-heater. Here’s the rundown on the two best-in-class devices on sale right now. Or check out Dyson’s site for other Dyson winter sale deals.
Best Pet Hair Vacuum: $250 Off Dyson Gen5 Detect
WIRED reviewer and dogged cat lover Molly Higgins says she’s obsessed with the Dyson Gen5 Detect cordless vacuum, her pick as the best pet hair vacuum on the market. Largely this is a blend of versatility and power: It can operate as either a lightweight cordless stick vacuum or a small handheld vac, but still offers as much pep as you’d expect from a corded vacuum. Importantly for pet owners, it also offers powerful HEPA filtration. For those who like to gamify spring cleaning, the device has a digital screen that tracks the particle size of every mite and mote you’ve sucked into the filter. This isn’t the best deal we’ve ever seen, but it’s the best since Black Friday.

The HP1 Hot+Cool is the newest update to Dyson’s long line of combination heaters, coolers, and purifiers. It’s a HEPA and carbon air filter, an app-enabled air quality sensor, a mostly accurate thermometer, a cooling fan, and a resistance heater. It also looks a little like a droid without a face, and is certainly taller and more dominant in a room than other heaters and fans. But I’ve found it to be the most sophisticated air management tool I’ve yet tested. It’s generally priced accordingly, but is $160 off right now, which approximately matches the best deals we’ve seen on this still-new device.
