Vodafone Idea Ltd (Vi) on December 25 disclosed GST demands worth ₹ 79 crore and ₹3.5 crore issued by by the Maharashtra State tax department and the Bengaluru Office of the Principal Commissioner of CGST, respectively..
On Christmas eve, Deputy Commissioner of State Tax of Mumbai as well as the Principal Commissioner of Central Goods and Services tax Commissionerate of Bengaluru issued penalties to the telco under Section 74 of Central Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017.
The Maharashtra State tax department issued a penalty order of ₹79.56 crore, which the company termed as an alleged demand on additional license fee and spectrum usage charges for FY 2018 – 2019.
Meanwhile, the Bengaluru Office of the Principal Commissioner of CGST issued a penalty order of ₹3.58 crorefor short payment of tax and excess claim of Input Tax Credit (ITC) during FY 2018-2019 to FY 2022-2023.
Responding to both these fines, Vi said, “The Company does not agree with the orders and will take appropriate action(s) for rectification/ reversal of the same.”
The news comes at the heels of another penalty of ₹4.15 crore levied by the West Bengal tax department on December 22. This order too claims excess claim of ITC and payment of tax under wrong head. Vi had responded to the same by stating that the company will take appropriate action(s) to address the order.
Vi share prices stood at ₹12.02 on Thursday.
