My name is William Hazen. I run a hedge fund with my business partner Bruno Montoya; however, I am the sole contributor to this page. Our fund, Mina Vista Capital Management, runs a concentrated U.S. Equity portfolio (8-10 holdings). As a fundamental investor I look for businesses with a strong economic moat and a highly scalable business model that can compound for years. Less often, I write about special situations, which typically focus on distressed and undervalued businesses that have near-term catalysts to move the price back to fair value. I will hedge opportunistically, but prefer to ride out some drawdown rather than potentially sacrifice long-term gains. I stay away from companies that are difficult to understand, but do not limit myself to specific sectors. My largest holding both personally and in my fund is Uber, but I also cover companies like Turning Point Brands, Netflix, SkyWest, and more. My investing journey started in high school. I went on to work in the venture capital space for a few years before starting my fund. Using Seeking Alpha, I aim to share high conviction, well-researched ideas. I would like to build a community where ideas can be exchanged and I can hear both opposing and supporting views to mine.
