Opened in 1955 as the first part of what would grow into the amusement-park empire, Disneyland in Anaheim has a total of 52 attractions, of which 49 are rides (the theme park uses this term to differentiate rides from light shows and exhibits).
Not all are open at the same time as the park spaces out repairs, renovations, and updates. As Disneyland emerges out of the holiday season and prepares for its Lunar New Year celebrations at California Adventure in January and February, 11 of those rides across its two parks will shut down at different points in the month, according to Disney watchdog blog Inside the Magic.
Two of the park’s most iconic rides, “Haunted Mansion” and “It’s a Small World,” will be closed down for the removal of Christmas decorations placed for the season — the former from Jan. 12 to 22, and the latter starting Jan. 26, without an announced reopening date.

As first reported by Inside The Magic, “Galaxy’s Edge” will also close to visitors from Jan. 20, while the “Incredicoaster” roller coaster and “Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind” spinner ride at California Adventure will be closed from Jan. 5.
The Redwood Creek Challenge play area for younger kids and “Grizzly River Run” raft ride will both be shut down on Jan. 8. Disneyland has not confirmed an official reopening date for either of the rides.

The other three attractions that will close in January are all water rides. The “Mark Twain Riverboat” will close only briefly between Jan. 12 and 15, while the “Sailing Ship Columbia” in the main Disneyland park will be closed on Jan. 26 without a return date.
The “Fantasmic” water show will close on a staggered schedule of Jan. 5 to 8, Jan. 11 to 15, Jan. 18 to 22, and Jan. 25 to 29.
Disneyland has celebrated with an annual Lunar New Year theme since 2013.

Disneyland to launch themed Lunar New Year in January
Those interested in riding or experiencing any of these are advised to keep track of the schedule on the park’s website to determine the exact dates.
Although the official holiday season ends Jan. 7, the Lunar New Year celebration, included in park admission, runs for one month between Jan. 23 and Feb. 22 at the California Adventure Park.

The theme, mirroring the new year festival celebrated in much of East and Southeast Asia at this time of year, first appeared at Disneyland in 1996 with a small dinosaur display. It launched as a full, annual seasonal theme in 2013.
Some of the themed exhibits and activities include calligraphy lessons and a wishing wall at Paradise Gardens Park.
“Event highlights include innovative marketplace bites and beverages celebrating Asian cuisine with a delicious Disney twist, dazzling festival décor [and] special appearances by some popular Disney Characters — including Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse — dressed in outfits inspired by traditional cultural attire,” Disney writes on its page promoting the period.
